This specimen was lot 23146 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $9,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 10000 Reis 1903, KM 496, Russo-698, MS61 NGC. Mintage: 391. Yellow-gold with soft blushes of rose coloration in the centers. A rare date, and the first example we have been able to trace since the 1997 offering of Norweb's example (a jewelry piece). The only example certified by NGC to date and certainly among the finest known."
