This specimen was lot 23103 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $30,550. The catalog description[1] noted, "Pedro II gold 10000 Reis 1839, KM 451, Russo-620, AU58 NGC. Mintage: 567. Impressively struck and reflective in the fields with orange and reddish tone encircling the peripheries that adds to the character. Highpoint friction is barely noticeable. A low-mintage date and the key to this 'child head' type with the only other example we were able to trace appearing in a group lot within the incredible Norweb collection."
