This specimen was lot 23885 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $4,406.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Maria I gold 4000 Reis 1802-(B), KM 225.2, Russo-500, Gomes-27.02, MS64 NGC. Dies were generally more crude at the mint in Bahia and it's easily verified when comparing 6400 Reis die quality, but it's especially contrasting for Maria I 4000 Reis. Not only were Bahia 4000 Reis more 'poorly' struck than the Rio counterparts, they were struck in fractional quantities and are generally found in heavier circulated condition than the pieces from Rio. With that said, this specimen of 1802 is quite an improbable coin with an essentially perfect strike, full mint bloom and perfect edges. A 'hidden' Gem of the RLM collection. From The RLM Collection, Part II."
