Brabant_1584_daalder_obv_JElsen_121-791.jpg(549 × 550 pixels, file size: 107 KB, MIME type: image/jpeg)

This specimen was lot 791 in Jean Elsen sale 121 (Brussels, June 2014), where it sold for €__ (US$__ including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

W., 802; Delm., 229. 26,21 g. Extrêmement Rare. presque Très Beau. (duchy of Brabant, States of Brabant (1584-85), silver "Robustus" daalder of 1584, Antwerp mint. Obverse: Roman warrior brandishes a sword and shield, Burgundian lion behind. Reverse: crowned arms of Brabant between two crowned "B's". Extremely rare, about very fine.)

(The silver coinage of the States of Brabant comprised écus, half écus and five sol pieces, called "Robustus" after the obverse legend. The design chosen for the écu and half écu shows remarkable quality of engraving.)"
