This specimen was lot 29383 in Heritage sale 3040 (Long Beach, April 2015), where it sold for $5,875. The catalog description[1] noted, "Charles IV gold 8 Escudos 1789 PTS-PR AU55 NGC, Potosi mint, KM68, Onza-1079. A well preserved and partially lustrous coin, with limited friction on the higher points preventing a higher designation. Slightly porous appearance on parts of the obverse due to poor planchet preparation, as often seen in coins of this mint and period. The rare first date of this elusive two-year type missing from the Norweb, Eliasberg and Caballero de las Yndias collections (those groups had the "usual" 1790/89 date). Being one of the finer of the few examples seen by the cataloger, with only two examples currently graded by NGC, the current offering represents a good opportunity for the advanced collector of this series. Ex. Paul Karon Collection."
