This specimen was lot 39022 in Stack's Bowers Winter sale (Baltimore, November 2015), where it sold for $528.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. Paar. Taler, 1771 (1781). Johann Wenzel (as Prince) (1769-92). NGC AU Details--Surface Hairlines. KM 2; Dav-1193. Lettered edge. Catalog data indicates an original mintage of only 200 pieces, with an additional 500 coins struck 10 years later in 1781. An exceptionally scarce and highly sought-after issue, and missing from many Taler collections. The princes of Paar were an Italian family dating back to 1629 that held the Austrian hereditary title of Postmaster General for nearly three centuries. They obtained minting privileges shortly before this coin was struck. Semi proof-like fields are evident on both sides, with the look of being lightly cleaned, but without significant hairline damage. All things considered, an exceptionally well-preserved example of the type with nearly complete detail all through the hair and facial portion of the portrait."
the only other thaler from this locale is Dav-1194 of 1794, also rare.
