This specimen was lot 30370 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $32,900. The catalog description[1] noted, "George V gold Sovereign 1922-M MS63+ PCGS, Melbourne mint, KM 29, Fr-39, S-3999. A spectacular representative of this significant rarity produced at the Melbourne mint. While the census records show two examples certified slightly finer, this current offering is an underestimated competitor with its coveted plus designation for eye-appeal, glowing mint luster, and sweeping tones of rose and blush that brighten the peripheries. Closer inspection confirms a few limiting marks across the King's effigy and throughout the reverse fields, but as a whole these trivial blemishes align with the grade and add a level of charm. An altogether wonderful opportunity for the grade-conscious collector looking to acquire a Mint State example of this rare issue."
