This specimen was part of lot 31006 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), which sold for $105,750. The catalog description[1] noted, "An Important Early Proof Set of Australia--George V 6-Piece Proof Set 1934, 1/2 Penny - PR66 Red and Brown PCGS, KM22, Penny - PR66 Red and Brown PCGS, KM23, 3 Pence - PR67 PCGS, KM24, 6 Pence - PR66 PCGS, KM25, Shilling - PR66 PCGS, KM26, 2 Shillings (Florin) - PR64 PCGS, KM27. An extremely rare set in Proof format, the likes of which only 100 were reportedly struck, but with fewer likely extant given the infrequency of their public appearance. Impressively, the present set, with the exception of the florin that was graded PR64 and reveals no real defects, remains in outstanding Gem grade or higher! Additionally, the copper has retained substantial mint red, a true sign of careful storage and handling. As is customary of the set, all examples show evidence of die polish lines in the fields; the result of this special preparation leaving a most-unusual velvety gleam on each coin. We have been lucky to sell this set twice (not the same coins however) in our history, the last time in 2010 for an astounding $276,000! For the many interested connoisseurs of this classic rarity that just missed their chance at ownership last time around, here represents another chance, and in that, an opportunity for numismatic redemption."
