This specimen was lot 40159 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1773/2-VJ 2 Escudos. Santa Fe de Nuevo Reino (Bogotá) mint. Carlos III (1759-1788). AU-55 (PCGS). A choice piece with an outstanding provenance. Abundant frosty luster covers both sides, with even light yellow surfaces. A number of raised die artifacts are seen in the right obverse field. A most attractive example of this issue. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins. Ex. This type was struck at Nuevo Reino (Bogotá) and Popayán 1772-84 and is probably the most common two escudos of colonial Latin America.
