CNG Lissner sale, lot 728

This specimen was lot 728 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $2,178. The catalog description[1] noted, "NORWAY. Fredrik III. 1648-1670. AR 2 Mark. Kristiania (Oslo) mint; im: clover. Frederik Grüner, engraver. Dated 1669. In NGC encapsulation graded AU 55. Very choice lustrous AU and basically as struck. An extremely rare coin and only specimen ever graded." The SCWC lists this type for 1649-62; this unlisted date may be presumed to be rare. The two mark was reduced to 10.83 g for 1670-71, then restored to its former weight, then reduced to 6.99 g in 1699.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 11.14 g, 0.672 fine silver, this specimen Ø33 mm, 11.03 g, 5h axis.
