Stephen Album sale 50, lot 655

This specimen was lot 655 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "DANISH INDIA: TRANQUEBAR: Frederik III, 1648-1670, lead kas, ND, crowned F3 // crowned Norse lion left, its tongue extended, on curved battle-axe, with letters D C above the lion, choice XF, R, ex Solar Collection." The Danish fort at Tranquebar was sold to the British in 1845. This lead cash was struck in over ninety varieties during the reign of Frederik III (died 1670).
