This specimen was lot 1916 in Stephen Album sale 39 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "oted, "TURKS & CAICOS: Elizabeth II, 1952-, AV 50 crowns, 1974, Centennial of the Birth of Churchill, in original card of issue, struck at the Royal Canadian Mint, matte finish, Choice Unc." Another scarce NCLT from a forgotten corner of the Caribbean. Even admirers of Churchill will find little to admire about this coin. It looks like a product of the Franklin Mint but is not so marked.
Recorded Mintage: 30,000 plus 4,000 proofs.
Specification: 9 g, 0.500 fine gold, AGW 0.1447 oz, edge lettered REDEEMABLE AT TURKS AND CAICOS FOR U.S. CURRENCY.
