Turks and Caicos Islands 1974 50 crowns

Steve Album sale 39, lot 1916

This specimen was lot 1916 in Stephen Album sale 39 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $336. The catalog description^[1] noted, "oted, "TURKS & CAICOS: Elizabeth II, 1952-, AV 50 crowns, 1974, Centennial of the Birth of Churchill, in original card of issue, struck at the Royal Canadian Mint, matte finish, Choice Unc." Another scarce NCLT from a forgotten corner of the Caribbean. Even admirers of Churchill will find little to admire about this coin. It looks like a product of the Franklin Mint but is not so marked.

Recorded Mintage: 30,000 plus 4,000 proofs.

Specification: 9 g, 0.500 fine gold, AGW 0.1447 oz, edge lettered REDEEMABLE AT TURKS AND CAICOS FOR U.S. CURRENCY.
