Jean Elsen sale 131, lot 847

This specimen was lot 847 in Jean Elsen sale 131 (Brussels, December 2016), where it sold for €110 (about US$138 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SAINT EMPIRE, Ferdinand II (1619-1637), AR Taler, 1624, Vienne. D/ B. l. et cuir. à d., le col fraisé. R/ Aigle impériale couronnée. Traces de monture. Très Beau. (Holy Roman Empire, Ferdinand II (1619-37), silver thaler of 1624, Vienna mint. Obverse: laureate armored bust to right, in ruffed collar; reverse: crowned imperila eagle. Trace of mount, very fine.)"

The SCWC lists this type of 1623-24 as common. Numerous other thalers were minted by the Hapsburgs in 1624.
