This specimen was lot 22104 in Heritage sale 61352 (Dallas, December 2023), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "[[France]]: Louis XIV 1/2 Ecu 1701-)( F15 NGC, Besancon mint. A very scarce mint and date pairing, missing from the Gadoury and Droulers references. This type was struck 1701-03 in large quantities, almost exclusively by overstriking older half écus ("flans reformés"). It was succeeded by the ''demi-écu aux 8 L, 2éme type.'' The Besançon mint was a backwoods operation and most of its products are rare. We are not at all shocked that this example is from an unlisted date.
