This specimen was lot 1518 in Jean Elsen sale 112 (Brussels, March 2012) where it sold for € 600 (about US$938 including buyer's fee). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ALLEMAGNE, AIX-LA-CHAPELLE (AACHEN), Ville, AR Taler, 1568, Au titre de Maximilien II. Droit : Charlemagne trônant de face, tenant un sceptre et un globe crucigère, au-dessus de l'écu à l'aigle. Revers : Aigle impériale couronnée. Rare. Légère trace de bélière (?). Très Beau." (City of Aix-La-Chapelle (Aachen), silver thaler of 1568, in the name of Maximilian I. Obverse: Charlemagne seated on a throne, holding scepter and orb, shield with eagle displayed below; reverse: crowned imperial eagle. Rare, perhaps mounted, Very fine.)

This type was struck 1568-71 along with a double thaler (Dav-8901).
