Stack's Bowers 2014 Baltimore sale, lot 1502

This specimen was lot 457 in Stack's Bowers Winter 2014 Baltimore sale, where it sold for $2,300. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN. 4 Escudos, 1734/2-MJF. Madrid Mint. Philip V (1700-46). NGC EF-45. RARE type. Some peripheral toning. Nicely struck and attractive. NGC EF-45. From the David Gray Collection. Ex: Ponterio & Associates Sale 152 Lot #7421 January 8, 2010." This type was issued at Madrid 1732-34. All the early four escudos of Spain are rare and expensive.

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.901 fine gold, .392 troy oz AGW.
