Denmark-Gluckstadt 1682 2 mark

from the Stack's Bowers February 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 10281

This specimen was lot 10281 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €1,680 (about US$1,751). The catalog description^[1] noted, "DENMARK. 2 Mark, 1682. Gluckstadt Mint. Christian V. NGC AU-50. Lovely specimen of this rare date with warm golden toning. From the L. E. Bruun Collection. Ex: Countship of Brahesminde Collection. Ex: Peter v. Hemmert Collection." This type was struck at Gluckstadt 1679-81. It has crossed axes for a mintmark; the similar Copenhagen product has initials "GS". Christian V was king of Denmark and duke of Schleswig-Holstein. Two mark was half a krone or one-third speciedaler.
