This specimen was lot 30320 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $2,702.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Republic gold 2 Escudos 1826 RA, Rioja mint, XF40 NGC. One-year type. A bright example of this immensely appealing sunface issue with vibrant reddish-copper tone that adorns many of the central devices and extends towards portions of the legends. Differentiated from the previous type by the absent "P" assayer initial. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate' Partnership of Eric P Newman / B.G. Johnson." This type was struck 1824-26 and, like most Argentine gold coins, is very rare. A variety with assayer "P" also exists for the year.
