This specimen was lot 24365 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $132. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Blackened Cent, 1924. Utrecht Mint; privy mark: seahorse. Wilhelmina. PCGS MS-63 Gold Shield. A RARE and KEY DATE for this series, this example featured a darker overall color due to its blackening." This type, listed for 1913-41, superseded a similar type (KM 132) struck 1902-07 with a different reverse. Postwar cents were reduced in weight and struck until 1980. This is a scarce date.
Recorded mintage: 1,400,000.
Specification: 2.5 g, bronze, 19 mm diameter, reeded edge.
Catalog reference: KM-152, Sch-986.
