This specimen is a common date of a series struck 1871-92 at the Culiacan mint, which closed in 1905. This twenty-five centavos piece replaced the two reales struck since colonial times. It, in turn, was replaced by a smaller twenty centavos piece in 1898. The first specimen was lot 9067 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $207. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Culiacan. 25 Centavos, 1886-CnM. Toned. NGC AU-55."

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.903 fine silver, .196 troy oz ASW.

Recorded mintage: 22,000.

Catalog reference: KM 406.2.
