Sincona sale 85, lot 1058

This specimen was lot 1058 in Sincona sale 85 (Zurich, October 2023), where it sold for 140 CHF (about US$189 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Nasir al-Din Shah, 1264-1313 AH (1848-1896). 1 Shahi sefid 1297 AH (1880 AD), Tehran Mint. NGC AU58. From the Kian collection, auction SINCONA 49, October 2018, lot 61. Finest certified by NGC."

With the coming of the milled coinage, all of the branch mints were closed and all production was completed in Tehran. One thousand dinars made a kran and ten kran made a toman. This denomination was struck in large numbers before the introduction of milled coinage but was gradually superseded by the copper fifty dinars. This type is listed for AH 1297-1309 and undated.
