West Friesland. Duit, 1754. PCGS MS-62 Brown Gold Shield. A deep brown and nearly choice specimen with a solid overall strike and appearance." Duits were struck in copper in Westfriesland intermittently during the eighteenth century until the destruction of the United Provinces in 1794. This particular type was struck in copper, silver and gold 1741-80. The copper ones circulated while the silver and gold specimens were souvenirs or presentation pieces.
