This specimen was lot 23367 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $95. The catalog description[1] noted, "NEW ZEALAND. Shilling, 1937. PCGS MS-65 Gold Shield. Brilliant cartwheel luster and a pleasant light tone highlight this exceptional Gem, one of just six at this finest level in the PCGS listings. From the Fenton Collection." This shilling struck for George VI retained the Maori warrior reverse introduced with George V. This type was struck 1937-46 although none were made in 1938-39. In 1948, the obverse was revised from "GEORGE VI KING EMPEROR" to "KING GEORGE THE SIXTH." The denomination was terminated upon decimalization in 1965.

Recorded mintage: 890,000 + 200 proofs.

Specification: 5.65 g, .500 fine silver, 28.58 mm diameter.
