Colombia 1863-P decimo

from the Stack's Bowers 2018 ANA sale, lot 44244

This specimen was lot 44244 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $360. The catalog description^[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. Decimo, 1863. Popayan Mint. AU-55 (PCGS). Decent strike, untoned. Many details of peripheral legends have been restruck. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins." This type was struck at Bogotá and Popayan (shown here) 1863-66 and represents the last of the cornucopias-and-pomegranate design before the introduction of the liberty head in 1868. It is scarce from both mints, particularly from Popayan.
