Sincona sale 19, lot 19

This specimen was lot 19 in Sincona sale 19 (Zurich, October 2014), where it sold for CHF 13,000 (about US$16,291 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Poltina 1705, Kadashevsky Mint. “Highly decorative in high relief”! Extremely rare!! 50 roubles according to Petrov! 25 roubles according to Trapeznikov. Plugged and repaired. Slightly cleaned. Very fine. Collector’s note: 'RR. Auction B.Ahlström Stockholm in approx. in (19)74. Bought through Hirsch. Petrov page 22 #838 var' Ex famous auction Adolph Cahn, no. 66, 6th of May 1930, lot 1000." This half ruble of 1701-05 is rare, like most of the silver minors of Peter I. This specimen realized ten times the catalog value despite being plugged.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 14 g, .875 fine silver, this specimen 13.65 g.

Catalog reference: KM-106.1, Bitkin 558 (R3). Severin 169. GM 19,11. Diakov 207 (R3).
