The Qu’aiti rulers formed a unified sultanate in 1902 that would become part of the Aden Protectorate. It resisted incorporation into a larger Yemeni state being formed by the British (South Arabia). Eventually, it was forcibly integrated into the People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen in 1967. Coinage of the early Qu’aiti State consisted of spurious, counterstamped foreign coins.<br /> <br /> The examples shown was auctioned by Steve Album (auction #14) on September 21, 2012, and sold for $180.
