This specimen was lot 24126 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "Wurzburg. Franz Ludwig Taler 1786, AU58 NGC. A bit of rubbing on the high points, with a touch of toning over essentially full luster. Another of the Talers that includes the original envelope from the mid-1800's, or earlier. It's difficult to imagine the coin, and the envelope, have remained together for such a long time." This type is listed in the SCWC as a three year type but is actually fairly scarce. The bishopric of Wurzburg was an ecclesiastical state north of Bavaria and south of Thuringia whose rulers issued thalers fairly steadily during the eighteenth century. The bishopric was secularized in 1803 and given to Bavaria by Napoleon, which region it is still a part.
