This specimen was lot 6577 in CNG sale Triton XXVII (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $134.75. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "ITALY, Venezia ([[Italy, Venice|Venice]]). Provisional Government. 1848-1849. CU 5 Centesimi. Dated 1849 ZS. Lion of St. Mark seated facing, resting paw on gospel / Denomination and date. In PCGS encapsulation 85101306, graded MS 64 RB." This centesimo piece was struck during an insurrection against Austrian rule in 1848. Without foreign support, the rebellion collapsed. Venice would not be incorporated into a united Italy until 1866. The provisional government also issued gold [[Venice 1848 20 lire|20 lire]], silver [[Venice 1848 5 lire|five lire]], [[Venice 1848 15 centesimi|15]] and 25 centesimi and bronze [[Venice 1849-ZV centesimo|one]] and [[Venice 1849-ZV 3 centesimi|three centesimi]] coins.
