This specimen was lot 6612 in CNG sale Triton XXVII (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $275.62. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "UNITED STATES. 1990-P $5 – Gold 1/10 Oz Bullion. PCGS PR70DCAM." In 1986, the mint inaugurated the Bullion Coinage Program in gold and silver to compete with foreign coins (such as the krugerrand) and privately issued medallions. While sales have died down from the initial enthusiasm, they have been steady sellers and the type, issued in one, half, quarter and tenth ounce sizes, is still in production. The uncirculated strikes do not bear the "P" mintmark, which was dropped after 1993.
