This specimen was lot 18121 in Heritage auction 354 (the Horwedel sale, Long Beach, CA, September 2004), where it sold for $2,990. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "San Diego, CA - $20 1902 Plain Back Fr. 656 The Union NB Ch. # (P)10435. An even higher grade example from this large only San Diego issuer than the note we sold as part of the California Estate collection last year which realized $1955. Bright Fine-Very Fine."
