This specimen was lot 745 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €500 (about US$674 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''DEUTSCHER ORDEN, DEUTSCHER ORDEN IN MERGENTHEIM Clemens August von Bayern, 1732-1761. 1/4 Konv.-Taler 1761, Nürnberg, auf seinen Tod. Prachtexemplar. Herrliche Patina, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz.'' (Teutonic Order in Mergentheim, Clement Augustus of Bavaria, 1732-61, quarter convention thaler of 1761, Nuremberg mint, on the grandmaster's death. Proof example, beatiful patina, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"</blockquote> In the late eighteenth century, the Teutonic Order was in advanced decay, the Order's holdings being reduced to a few abbeys in Germany. Accordingly, the coinage is scanty and rare. This is one of three quarter thalers issued in the eighteenth century. It was accompanied by a three kreuzer ([[Teutonic Order 1761 3 kreuzer|KM 140]]).
