This specimen was lot 30647 in Heritage sale 3040 (Chicago, April 2015), where it sold for $1,175. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "Oscar II Krona 1884-EB MS66 NGC, Stockholm mint. A 'wonder-coin' for the type, approaching visually flawless without the aid of magnification, and equally well-struck, with sublime, original patination over both sides in antique-gold, tan and blue-green hue. For comparison sake, we sold an MS65 of the 1883 date for $1,955 back in 2008. The present coin, clearly superior in appearance and the single finest example of the date graded by several grades at NGC, should certainly exceed that amount." Collecting Swedish coins is complicated by the multiple currency reforms the country underwent during the period. In 1873, the riksdaler species was dropped and 100 öre = 1 krona (the krona, at 7.5 g, .800 fine silver, was slightly smaller than the old riksdaler riksmynt). The type is noted for 1877-89. This date is common in worn condition but scarce nice. The system adopted in 1873 is still in use today, the Swedes having recently declined to adopt the euro.
