This specimen was lot 1382 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €550 (about US$711 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''Stade, STADT Reichstaler (32 Schilling) 1621, mit Titel Ferdinands II. RR Etwas poröser Schrötling, kl. Zainende, sehr schön.'' ([[Germany]], city of Stade, thaler of 1621, in the name of Ferdinand II. Rare, somewhat porous, light scrtaches, very fine.)"</blockquote> Most Bremen issues were emitted by the free city of Bremen, still today a major port on the North Sea coast of Germany. However, the hinterland formed the archbishopric of Bremen which persisted after the region converted to Lutheranism in the mid-1500's. This rare thaler was issued by the city of Stade, which lies on the Elbe downstream from Hamburg. Finally, as a consequence of the Thirty Years War, the state was secularized and handed over to the king of Sweden and ruled by him until 1719.
