Geharnischtes Brustbild r.//Gekröntes, mit Schnitzwerk verziertes Wappen von Schleswig, zu den Seiten Palmzweige. GOLD. Von großer Seltenheit. Min. gewellt, fast vorzüglich. Exemplar der Sammlung Münzen und Medaillen aus adeligem Privatbesitz.'' Der junge Herzog, entschlossen und kriegerischen Mutes, beharrte aber auf diesem Recht und setzte es sogleich in die Tat um. Durch seine Hochzeit mit Hedwig Sophie, Tochter des Königs Karl XI. von Schweden 1698, wurde sein Widerstand gegen Dänemark noch gestärkt. Die Rüstungen zum Kriege wurden durch den Tod Christians V. unterbrochen. Der unter dem folgenden König Friedrich IV. ausbrechende Krieg wurde bald durch den Frieden von Traventhal beendet. Der Herzog fand bald keinen Gefallen mehr daran, sein Land zu regieren. Er gab die Verwaltung an einen Abenteurer namens Bergholz in Pacht und eilte zu seinem Schwager nach Polen, wo er in der Schlacht bei Klissow am 19.
