This specimen was lot 29536 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $1,880. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "Saxony. Friedrich August III Taler 1799-IEC MS66 PCGS. A classic example with icy-white surfaces that exhibit faint champagne accents throughout. Exceptional, razor-sharp details are frosty in nature and are the result of an exacting strike. A visually stunning specimen, currently unrivaled in this superior quality." The Duke of Saxony consistently stood as an ally of Napoleon during his invasions of Germany, for which he was promoted to king in 1806. After Napoleon's fall, Saxony was punished by having half her territory annexed to Prussia but Frederick Augustus kept his new title. This type is listed for 1793-1806 and is accompanied by a mining thaler ([[Saxony 1795-IEC thaler Dav-2703|Dav-2703]]).
