This specimen was lot 3813 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €12,000 (about US$15,502 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM Friedrich August III. (I.), 1763-1806-1827. 10 Taler (Doppelter August d'or) 1779, Dresden. Geharnischtes Brustbild r. mit umgelegtem Mantel und Ordensband//Zwei aneinandergelehnte, lorbeerumwundene Wappenschilde, darüber Kurhut, unten die Signatur I . E . C . (Johann Ernst Croll, Münzmeister in Dresden 1779-1804). GOLD. Sehr selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz.'' ([[Germany]], electorate of Saxony, Frederick August III (1763-1827), ten thaler (double august d'or) of 1779 Dresden mint. Obverse: armored and mantled bust right; reverse: two oval arms, laurel wreaths around, ducal hat above, signature below. Very rare, especially in this quality, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"</blockquote> This type of 1778-79 shows the elector with a uniformed bust; a bare bust type was struck 1779-90; both are scarce to rare.
