This specimen was lot 4346 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabruck, March 2024), where it sold for €3,000 (about US$3,936 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, <blockquote>"''SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM, Johann Friedrich der Großmütige und Moritz, 1541-1547. Taler 1542, Annaberg. Mit Münzmeisterzeichen des Wolf Hünerkopf: Sechsstrahliger Stern. Geprägt aus dem Silber seiner eigenen Grube St. Clement. Sehr selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Sehr attraktives Exemplar mit prachtvoller Patina, sehr schön-vorzüglich. Variante mit deutlich kleinerem Hüftbild des Herzogs Moritz auf der Rückseite.'' Sein Nachfolger war Nickel Streubel, der dort von 1539 bis 1545 für den Kurfürsten und für Herzog Moritz mit dem Münzzeichen Kreuz im Ring prägte. (...) In Annaberg finden wir aber von 1542 bis 1545, also während Streubels Amtszeit, noch einen sechsstrahligen Stern als Münzzeichen. Erst unlängst hat sich herausgestellt, daß damit der ehemalige Annaberger Münzmeister Hünerkopf erneut prägte. (...) Woher rührt die Seltenheit dieser Münzen? His father, Johann Friedrich I, in 1547, while a prisoner of the emperor, was forced to cede the electoral title and much land to his cousin Moritz of the Albertine line. On the death of Johann Friedrich I in 1552, Johann Friedrich II partitioned ducal Saxony with his brothers, initiating the fragmentation of that state.
