This specimen was lot 843 in Jean Elsen sale 163 (Brussels, November 2025), where it sold for €60 (about US$69 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''ALLEMAGNE, SAXE-MEISSEN, Friedrich der Streitbare (1381-1428), AR Schildgroschen, s.d. (1409-1412), Freiberg. D/ Croix fleuronnée dans un quadrilobe. Dans les angles extérieurs: C-R-V-X. R/ Écu au lion entre trois rosettes. Fines griffes. Belle patine.'' ([[Germany]], margraviate of Saxe-Meissen, Frederick the Warlike, 1381-1428, undated silver shield groschen, circa 1409-12, Freiberg mint. Obverse: floriate cross in a quadrilobe, cantonned with "C-R-V-X"; reverse: a shield with a lion between three rosettes. Fine scratches, nice patina, Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"</blockquote> Wikipedia comments, "Frederick I, the Belligerent or the Warlike (1370 -1428), a member of the House of Wettin, ruled as Margrave of Meissen from 1407 and as Elector of Saxony (Frederick I) from 1423 until his death. He secured the Saxon electorship for the House of Wettin, thereby establishing the dynasty's future importance in German politics." As this coin was struck by the first Wettin elector of [[German States, Saxony|Saxony]] we will file it under that state even tho Frederick had not yet obtained the title when this coin was made.<br />
