This specimen was lot 4326 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabruck, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €700 (about US$916 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''SACHSEN, SACHSEN, HERZOGTUM (Ernestiner nach dem Verlust der. Johann Wilhelm, 1567-1573. Reichstaler 1569, Saalfeld. Attraktives Exemplar, vorzüglich.'' ([[Germany]], duchy of [[German States, Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach|Saxony]], Ernestine line, before the loss of the electorate, John William, 1567-73, thaler of 1569, Saalfeld mint. Attractive example, extremely fine, clipped.)"</blockquote> This particular version of Saxe-Weimar would lapse on the duke's death in 1605. It would be revived several times before World War One wiped away all the German principalities. This type was struck 1567-72.
