This specimen was lot 3199 in Künker sale 384 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €700 (about US$905 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''Hieronymus von Colloredo, 1772-1803. Dukat 1787. Mit Signatur M (Stempelschneider Franz Matzenkopf) unter dem Brustbild. GOLD. Sehr schön-vorzüglich.'' (archbishopric of [[Austria, Salzburg|Salzburg]], Hieronymus von Colloredo, 1772-1803, ducat of 1787, with signature M below the bust. Very fine to extremely fine.)"</blockquote> The Archbishopric of Salzburg was an ecclesiastical state between Bavaria and Austria and usually ruled by a Hapsburg client. This type was struck 1787-1802 for Hieronymus von Colloredo. It has a slightly modified shield on the reverse from the prior type ([[Salzburg 1786-M ducat Fr-880|KM 437]]). It is probably the most common gold coin from this state. In the seventeenth century, Salzburg was blessed with a number of productive silver mines and the prince-archbishop was a prolific issuer of coins, particularly thalers. The archbishopric was secularized in 1803 and passed to [[Austria]] in 1813.
