This specimen was lot 3192 in Künker sale 384 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €750 (about US$969 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''Hieronymus von Colloredo, 1772-1803. Dukat 1780. Mit Signatur M (Stempelschneider Franz Matzenkopf) unter dem Brustbild. GOLD. Winz. Kratzer, sehr schön-vorzüglich.'' (archbishopric of [[Austria, Salzburg|Salzburg]], Hieronymus von Colloredo, 1772-1803, ducat of 1780, with signature M below the bust. minor scratches, very fine to extremely fine.)"</blockquote> The Archbishopric of Salzburg was an ecclesiastical state between Bavaria and Austria and usually ruled by a Hapsburg client. This type was struck 1772-86 for Hieronymus von Colloredo. It is probably the most common gold coin from this state. In the seventeenth century, Salzburg was blessed with a number of productive silver mines and the prince-archbishop was a prolific issuer of coins, particularly thalers. The archbishopric was secularized in 1803 and passed to [[Austria]] in 1813.
