This specimen was lot 3449 in Sincona sale 83 (Zurich, May 2023), where it sold for 710 CHF (about US$950 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "''Salzburg, Erzbistum, Franz Anton von Harrach, 1709-1727. Dukat 1715, Salzburg. Fast vorzüglich. Kleine Kratzer und Randfehler'' (archbishopric of [[Austria, Salzburg|Salzburg]], Franz Anton von Harrach, 1709-1727, ducat of 1715, Salzburg mint. About extremely fine, Small scratches and edge nicks)." The Archbishopric of Salzburg was an ecclesiastical state between Bavaria and Austria and usually ruled by a Hapsburg client. This type was struck 1709-26 and is slightly more common than the ducat with the bust obverse ([[Salzburg 1715 ducat Fr-842|Fr-842]]). In the seventeenth century, Salzburg was blessed with a number of productive silver mines and the prince-archbishop was a prolific issuer of coins, particularly thalers. The archbishopric was secularized in 1803 and passed to Austria in 1814.
