This specimen was part of lot 3048 in Künker sale 384 (Osnabrück, March 2023), which sold for €160 (about US$207 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''Franz Anton von Harrach, 1709-1727. 1/2 Reichstaler 1712, 1725. 14,44 g und 14,12 g. Probszt 2029, 2033; Zöttl 2442 (Type 4), 2446 (Type 4). 2 Stück., Henkelspur (1x), sehr schön. 1712: Exemplar der Auktion Lanz 37, München 1986, Nr. 1016.'' (archbishopric of [[Austria, Salzburg|Salzburg]], Francis Anthony of Harrach, 1709-27, half thalers of 1712 and 1725. Two pieces, one with a mount mark, very fine.)"</blockquote> The Archbishopric of Salzburg was an ecclesiastical state between Bavaria and Austria and usually ruled by a Hapsburg client. This type was struck 1712, 1715, 1718, 1720 and 1725. Franz Anton was the first archbishop in several generations to place his portrait on the coinage. This, however, is the traditional half thaler with the Madonna on the obverse. Bust and Madonna half thalers are both quite scarce and are priced higher than the thalers. In the seventeenth century, Salzburg was blessed with a number of productive silver mines and the prince-archbishop was a prolific issuer of coins, particularly thalers. The archbishopric was secularized in 1803 and passed to [[Austria]] in 1813.
