This specimen was lot 2909 in Künker sale 384 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €1,200 (about US$1,551 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, <blockquote>"''Max Gandolph von Küenburg, 1668-1687. Dukat 1684. GOLD. Min. Bearbeitungsspuren am Rand, sehr schön-vorzüglich. Erworben von Otto Mages, Rottach-Egern.'' (archbishopric of [[Austria, Salzburg|Salzburg]], Max Gandolph of Küenburg, 1668-87, ducat of 1684. Minor tooling on edge, Very fine to extremely fine.)"

In the seventeenth century, Salzburg was blessed with a number of productive silver mines and the prince-archbishop was a prolific issuer of coins, particularly thalers. The archbishopric was secularized in 1803 and passed to [[Austria]] in 1813.
