The first specimen was lot 1320 in Sincona sale 18 (Zurich, May 2014), where it sold for CHF 3,200 (about US$4,216 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, <blockquote>"''Friedrich dor 1822. Berlin Fast vorzüglich.'' (kingdom of Prussia, friedrich d'or of 1822, Berlin mint, nice extremely fine.)"</blockquote> The second specimen was lot 21239 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Las Vegas, August 2020), where it sold for $2,880. The catalog description[2] noted, "GERMANY. Prussia. Frederick d'Or, 1822-A. Berlin Mint. Friedrich Wilhelm III. NGC AU-58. A handsome representative of the type displaying light signs of handling consistent for the grade with plenty of luster in the protected areas and pale gold tone." This denomination was introduced as a ''wilhelm d'or'' in 1737 during the reign of Friedrich Wilhelm I (r. 1713-40) but continued as a ''friedrichs d'or'' during the rule of Frederick the Great (r. 1740-86). This type was issued 1817-19 and 1822. The denomination was retired in 1855.
