The specimen shown is from a type struck for [[Portugal]] 1932-51. The handsome caravel design was also used on [[Portugal 1951 2-1/2 escudos|two-and-a-half]] and [[Portugal 1948 10 escudos|ten escudos]] coins. When the issue of five escudos resumed in 1963, it was a copper-nickel coin.<br />
