This specimen was lot 25514 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $705. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "Republic 10 Escudos 1942, MS65 PCGS, a choice example with blue-green and amber patina, rare grade for this low-mintage key date." The specimen shown is from a type struck for [[Portugal]] 1932-48. Despite the seven years of issue in fairly substantial numbers, the coin is not common and can be pricey in nice condition. This date and the 1932 are the most available in high grade. The handsome caravel obverse design was carried forward to the issue of 1954-55 (KM 586), which is much more affordable. The caravel also sailed on Portuguese two-and-a-half and [[Portugal 1932 5 escudos|five]] escudos of the same period.
