This specimen was lot 3054 in Goldberg sale 34 (Beverly Hills, February 2006), where it sold for $260. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Portugal]]. 200 Reis, 1829. Michael I, 1828-1834. Scarce type, ruler and grade. Choice Extremely Fine." This type was struck 1829-30 only and is the last of the denomination prior to the decimal reform of 1836. Far more extensive in types and availability is its larger sister, the 400 ''réis'' or ''pinto.'' King Michael was a usurper who was finally driven out in 1834 in favor of his niece, queen Maria II.
