This type, a forty réis or ''pataco'' was struck 1826-28 and is scarce in nice condition. These heavy bronze coins received much abuse and are normally found in low grade. King Pedro IV was the erstwhile Emperor of [[Brazil]] who returned to [[Portugal]] to defend the rights of his daughter (who would become Maria II) from the designs of his brother Michael. Despite the large mintage, this type is scarce.&lt;br /&gt;
