This specimen was lot 1118 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €1,200 (about US$1,617 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''POMMERN, POMMERN, HERZOGTUM UNTER SCHWEDEN, Karl XI. 1660-1697. 2/3 Taler 1673, Stettin. RR Zainende, sehr schön.'' ([[Germany]], duchy of Pomerania under Swedish rule, Charles XI, 1660-97, two-thirds thaler of 1673, Stettin mint. Rare, clipped, very fine.)"</blockquote> Another rare issue from this Baltic state. On the lapse of the dynasty in 1637, the duchy was contested between Sweden and Brandenburg until they agreed to partition it by the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. As Sweden gradually weakened, Brandenburg (later Prussia) gradually nibbled away at the Swedish portion until the remainder was seized in 1815. This two-thirds thaler was the first issue of this denomination, which was to become very popular in northern Germany.
